Star Wars on Thursday night was good although I think I need to see it again to appreciate it fully. I was a bit confused with some of the new characters and how they related to the others in the story (I like Star Wars but I'm not a crazy nut fan who knows everything about every character). Saturday in Melbourne was 41C degrees and overnight, it didn't get much below 30C which is crazy. We had the aircon on all night, first time we've ever done that. Then Sunday it was 39C by lunchtime and then by 4pm, it was 20C and raining - go figure. It's true what they way - if you don't like the weather in Melbourne, wait 5 minutes...
Santa's coat is filling out nicely and I've started on the back-stitching which is giving it great definition. The brown edges of the coat have gold thread couching which I'm not sure how to do. It just looks like back-stitching but I'll have to look it up as I don't want to stuff up the design. There's a whole lot of french knots too which I might do tonight if I'm feeling up to it.
Today I went to the craft store and bought the missing threads I've run out of for the Robot ABC so next week when we go down to Aireys, I should be able to finish off completely the 4 or 5 letters I've done since I ran out of the back-stitch thread. I also bought something called 'Thread Heaven' which I've never used before but Vonna at The Twisted Stitcher recommended it and I thought I'd give it a go.
I'm loving being on holidays!! Woo Hoo.

With couching, you lay the thread over the pattern and use small perpendicular stitches to tack it down. Here is a nice little tutorial, hope it helps. http://stitchschool.blogspot.com/2006/12/couching.html
ReplyDeleteRe: couching, just lay your thread over the fabric and use 1 or 2 plies of floss (on the needle) to tack it down at intervals, however many you need to make smooth curves, or make angles, etc. Since your floss is going over the couched thread, you can go back down in the same hole that you came up from.
