It's called Santa's Sidecar Stocking and I think it is a Dimensions kit.

Here is where I'm up to after a few nights of stitching.
And I need to get a move on with this as I just found out a girl at work is also due in August so I need to get one done for her as well!
It doesn't use contemporary Christmas colours, but looks great.
It was a free pattern found at: http://www.gigisthimble.com/2017/07/five-fat-quarter-fun-rustic-pines.html?m=1&fbclid=IwAR30f-38Z1IMPXU9MahAqp7DdgJi19A1wup-_u-8A8xv_HRr44ImzlOJtfI
This is a disappearing 4 patch done in the fun and done quilt as you go method. I really enjoyed this method as it came together quite quickly. It is a little fiddly to match up the seams, but I like the effect. It has a flannelette sheet on the back so it is very soft.
This one is done with the first jelly roll I've ever had. I found a pattern online but I can't remember the name of it, plus I did alter a few things to suit my tastes. It is also the first quilt I've had professionally quilted and I love how the circles interact with the straight lines of the design.
This one is a disappearing nine patch and I'm donating it to a charity that gives quilts to children in hospital. It is super bright and will hopefully brighten a kids day. It has a flannelette sheet on the back so it is super soft and snuggly.

I also got the following Christmas ornaments finished. They were a gift from the Fig'n'Berry Stitching Soiree held in Monbulk (Victoria, Australia). They are super cute - I really like how the thread colour seamlessly changes as you stitch. They use Cottage Garden threads.
The Trimming the Tree Stocking is finished - at least as finished as I can be when I don't know the name to stitch on the top yet... baby is due in Nov, so I've made it in plenty of time.

The Busy Crafting weekend away at Marysville was the reason it got finished. I stitched just about all day Saturday on it and am so pleased with the result. I also made some Christmas placemats, stitched & sewed a felt pencil case and started on a half-square triangle quilt top which I am very excited about. There was so much creativity in the room, it was very inspiring. I have so many ideas racing around my mind, I don't know where to start.
I made some good progress over the weekend on the Trimming the Tree stocking. The deadline is fast approaching so I have to stick with it. It helps having a 6-hour car race on TV to watch!

I've also been patchworking as well but don't have pictures of that just yet. I have so many projects on the go, it's almost getting a bit overwhleming. This weekend I am attending the Busy Crafting weekend away from Friday to Sunday in Marysville, Victoria. So looking forward to getting away and doing nothing but crafting the whole weekend!
I have made good progress on the Trimming the Tree Stocking. The third snowman is starting to take shape.

I was also busy on the weekend with patchworking. I got sick of my calendar falling off the hook every time I opened the pantry door, so I made a calendar holder. I'm pretty pleased with it but it's not pretty as I just used some scraps I had lying around.
I also made a patchwork cushion cover whilst the AFL Grand Final was on. I didn't care who won, so I sewed instead. And I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I hope to make some more of these in the near future as they were quite easy to put together. The pattern was from a $1 patchwork magazine I picked up at the local newsagency.
My Christmas Stocking is coming along very nicely... I now have part of a snowman next to the tree

I also finally received the backing fabric for my red, white & black quilt and have started on preparing the blocks for quilting and then joining.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "curlz mt"; font-size: 18pt;">Happy Stitching & Sewing,
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "curlz mt"; font-size: 18pt;">Kerrie xstitchlibrarianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14629207744657601664noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5885284187852127535.post-82744822940302023582018-08-27T14:03:00.000+10:002018-08-27T14:03:27.899+10:00Trimming the Tree #3I am pleased with my progress over the weekend on the Christmas stocking...

I also managed to get a few patchwork blocks put together. I have 42 with 1 spare that I might use to swap out a plain one, or maybe I could make 6 more for another row...?😉 We'll see what happens when my backing fabric finally arrives and I get taken up with doing a 'quilt as you go' method - can't wait to get started on it!
The baby is due in November so there should be just enough time to get it done and posted off to England for Christmas 2018!
Whilst patchwork is a new love, cross-stitch will always be my main love and since this is the first cross-stitch I've picked up since January, it was nice to get back into it again. I still have a few patchwork/quilting projects on the go and they won't be going away - I just have to split my time between my two loves.
So here are the remaining blocks (I think) from the Red, Black and White quilt. I have 35 in total now (with one final one still in progress) but I'm still unsure how to arrange them - square, or do some more for another row...?? I plan to do sashing and cornerstones which will help to enlarge the size. I'd like to do black minky on the back for softness and warmth, a red binding, and I need to hunt for a black fabric with a small white and red design on it for a border. I haven't seen anything just right so far... I'd like to do it big enough for a king size bed, but that probably means a few more rows will be required. I might just think about it for a while.
They are simple enough to do at least one per evening which means I'm getting quite a good collection happening.

I don't know what size quilt this will end up being, but I do know that I'm having super fun making up the different blocks.

Here are a few of the ones I've made recently:
I've got a few black & white and red & white prints that I'm going to use for a number of different blocks which will then form a quilt. Last night I tried a Dresden block for the first time and I'm super happy with how it turned out.
I'm following the Adventure Quilt blocks by Nancy Zieman on Craftsy. This is block #1.
I used left over squares to split the join down the middle of the backing for my quilt.

It's going to be professionally quilted next Friday so I'm super excited about how it will turn out...
This weekend, I finished the quilt top using a Strip Tube quilting pattern adapted from the tutorial from: <a data-ft="{"tn":"-U"}" data-lynx-mode="asynclazy" data-lynx-uri="https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.abrightcorner.com%2F2012%2F02%2Ftutorial-strip-tube-quilt&h=AT25bZ4xXnp3CfrS__eGR2m76MIZixbveBYtOM9DhCrxIpjGaNdJ3GbTqS2piilD6Uz1Z6tx6Qkn-D1qZVnVpHiMsGmyIo8x8kuekCwaWlnjdQsXYMNEs-bfnDk76yNfafGL2pzuEpQi067xK8CS8cMW" href="http://www.abrightcorner.com/2012/02/tutorial-strip-tube-quilt" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.abrightcorner.com/2012/02/tutorial-strip-tube-quilt.html

Requirements:

1 Jelly Roll (40 x 2.5" strips)
3m blending fabric (I used Spot On-Cream by Robert Kaufman)
Co-ordinating cotton
Batting and backing fabric for finishing

Quarter-inch seams are used throughout

Step 1:

First step is to sew your jelly roll together in sets of 2 strips

Step 2:

Sew strips of the blending fabric (4.5" wide), right sides together, to the joined jelly roll strips. Sew down both sides to create tubes

Step 3:

Using a 90 degree triangle, or corner of a square ruler, place the point just inside the top row of stitching on the tube. Cut triangles, flipping the ruler for each alternate cut

This one is called a One Block Wonder - it looks very effective, but is in fact very easy to put together.

1. Select a fabric with a repeating pattern.

2. Cut the fabric into the repeating sections and layer 6 strips on top of each other, lining up the pattern exactly.
3. Cut those strips into 3.5" strips, then cut those into 60 degree triangles. I divided the width of the repeating pattern into 3, and got 3.5" but this measurement will depend on your repeating pattern width; your triangles may be larger or smaller - it's up to you.

4. Take each pile of 6 triangles, and arrange into hexagons in a pattern you like. Play around with their placement.

6. Sew the triangle together, pressing seams open.

7. Sew the rows of triangles together, lining up the points if possible. The seams here will be quite thick, so take it easy!

You may have noticed I've changed the name of my blog as I now have a new obsession that I want to record... patchwork! I will always love cross-stitch, so it will make an appearance here again, but at the moment I am totally obsessed with patchwork and quilting, and it's all I can think about. I hope to share a few of my projects and hope you'll join me.

Below are just a few of the starting projects I have attempted in recent months and I hope my projects from now on will get a little more advanced as my skill level improves.
