Santa's Sidecar Stocking

I've started another stocking for a baby who's due in  August...

 It's called Santa's Sidecar Stocking and I think it is a Dimensions kit.

Here is where I'm up to after a few nights of stitching.
And I need to get a move on with this as I just found out a girl at work is also due in August so I need to get one done for her as well!

Christmas Quilt

A Christmas quilt I decided to make after purchasing 5 fat quarters at a great price is finally finished and on display in my theological library. It doesn't use contemporary Christmas colours, but looks great.

 Love how it turned out, although it is significantly bigger than I had imagined!

Quilting finishes

 A few of my recent patchworking finishes...

This is a disappearing 4 patch done in the fun and done quilt as you go method. I really enjoyed this method as it came together quite quickly. It is a little fiddly to match up the seams, but I like the effect. It has a flannelette sheet on the back so it is very soft.

 This one is done with the first jelly roll I've ever had. I found a pattern online but I can't remember the name of it, plus I did alter a few things to suit my tastes. It is also the first quilt I've had professionally quilted and I love how the circles interact with the straight lines of the design.

This one is a disappearing nine patch and I'm donating it to a charity that gives quilts to children in hospital. It is super bright and will hopefully brighten a kids day. It has a flannelette sheet on the back so it is super soft and snuggly.

I also got the following Christmas ornaments finished. They were a gift from the Fig'n'Berry Stitching Soiree held in Monbulk (Victoria, Australia). They are super cute - I really like how the thread colour seamlessly changes as you stitch. They use Cottage Garden threads.

Trimming the Tree Stocking - Finished!

The Trimming the Tree Stocking is finished - at least as finished as I can be when I don't know the name to stitch on the top yet... baby is due in Nov, so I've made it in plenty of time.

The Busy Crafting weekend away at Marysville was the reason it got finished. I stitched just about all day Saturday on it and am so pleased with the result. I also made some Christmas placemats, stitched & sewed a felt pencil case and started on a half-square triangle quilt top which I am very excited about. There was so much creativity in the room, it was very inspiring. I have so many ideas racing around my mind, I don't know where to start.

Trim the Tree Stocking #9

I made some good progress over the weekend on the Trimming the Tree stocking. The deadline is fast approaching so I have to stick with it. It helps having a 6-hour car race on TV to watch!

I've also been patchworking as well but don't have pictures of that just yet. I have so many projects on the go, it's almost getting a bit overwhleming. This weekend I am attending the Busy Crafting weekend away from Friday to Sunday in Marysville, Victoria. So looking forward to getting away and doing nothing but crafting the whole weekend!

I also finally received the backing fabric for my red, white & black quilt and have started on preparing the blocks for quilting and then joining.

I am pleased with my progress over the weekend on the Christmas stocking...

I also managed to get a few patchwork blocks put together. I have 42 with 1 spare that I might use to swap out a plain one, or maybe I could make 6 more for another row...?😉 We'll see what happens when my backing fabric finally arrives and I get taken up with doing a 'quilt as you go' method - can't wait to get started on it!

Trimming the Tree Stocking #1

Well, another baby is on the way for a past work colleague, and I couldn't let the new baby have no Christmas stocking when everyone else in the family has one... so I've selected this design and got started on it last night. The baby is due in November so there should be just enough time to get it done and posted off to England for Christmas 2018!

Whilst patchwork is a new love, cross-stitch will always be my main love and since this is the first cross-stitch I've picked up since January, it was nice to get back into it again. I still have a few patchwork/quilting projects on the go and they won't be going away - I just have to split my time between my two loves.

The Cross-Stitching & Patchworking Librarian

Hi Everyone,

You may have noticed I've changed the name of my blog as I now have a new obsession that I want to record... patchwork! I will always love cross-stitch, so it will make an appearance here again, but at the moment I am totally obsessed with patchwork and quilting, and it's all I can think about. I hope to share a few of my projects and hope you'll join me.

Below are just a few of the starting projects I have attempted in recent months and I hope my projects from now on will get a little more advanced as my skill level improves.

Christmas Bunting

I made some delightful Aussie Christmas Bunting over the weekend and have it hanging up at work in my library. I am very pleased with how it has turned out. I just ordered the panel from the craft store (Spotlight) and it was very easy to put together.

It has been very warm here in Melbourne over the last week or so and I've found it too hot to be doing anything, hence the lack of progress reports... It is supposed to cool down a  bit by the weekend so hopefully I can get back into things then.

Sledding Snowman Stocking - finished & Doona covers - finished!

Every weekend should be 3 days long! Thanks to the long weekend for the footy Grand Final, I got so much done - I am very pleased with myself!

Firstly, I finished off the Sledding Snowman Stocking - name and backing. I selected a striped backing as the design is a fun one and this just suited it perfectly rather than a plain colour.

 

I am super pleased with the end result and I just know the parents will love it as well!

Then I got re-started on my doona cover projects - the ones I was hoping (very naively) to have done by Christmas last year (in just 3 months, having never done a patchwork project ever before! - what was I thinking?)

All 5 fabrics have been done - woo hoo! I am super pleased with the results. They are all slightly different as I couldn't work out the instructions for finishing them with the gap at the bottom to insert the doona cover until I got to the last one. The final one is the only one that is completed correctly, but the others will all work just as well and no-one will know if I don't tell them (shh, you can keep a secret can't you?). Now I have one more to do as there are 6 single beds at the holiday house. The final one will be a mix'n'match of all the prints but I'm just deciding how to do that, what plain fabric to use and so on...
I think my first foray into patchwork has been a great success and I can't wait to start the next project... 

I also made gluten free mars bar slice (but with snickers since they are gf) and a sweet potato, feta and quinoa muffin for my lunches during the week.

Why can't every weekend be 3 days long - think how much you could get done!

Christmas Cards

Still waiting for confirmation of the spelling of the baby's name before I stitch it on the stocking, so the last 2 night's I've done some Christmas cards - quick and easy. I'm sure I started a bigger project before I got started on the stockings earlier this year, or maybe it was late last year, but I can't find where I've put it to continue with it. I'll have to have a big clean out of my craft room on the weekend!
