Life is About - finished & a new start...

Back-stitching all done so this is now finished! Yay.

On Saturday, I had a great day with my friend Judith as she introduced me to some amazing patchwork shops - one in Koo Wee Rup and another that is unfortunately closing down in Warburton. At the first one, I picked up some excellent fabrics to use as backings for the 2 Christmas stockings I've completed so they will be able to be sewn up after our holiday. I love the range of fabrics, how they all line up in colour order, different patterns, the possibilities are endless. Maybe I could get into patchwork one day... I'm certainly thinking about it.

Then on Sunday, I started another from this same series: "Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful"
I've just got the back-stitching to do around the word perfect - I would have finished it except that I got halfway through and found a mistake that required 4 letters to be unpicked and redone... I suppose it's better to find it earlier rather then later!

Life is About #20

Almost done... just some back-stitching to go around the bike. But that won't be happening tonight as I'm off to the movies with my friend to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 - should be a bit of fun.

Have a great weekend everyone...

Life is About #19

Got some sunshine done and finished the back-stitching around the border last night - just a bicycle to go now...

Very excited today as the schedule and registration for the ATLA  (American Theological Library Association) conference being held in Los Angeles is now available. I am all registered and signed up to go! It was difficult picking out which sessions I wanted to go to as they all sounded pretty good, but I think I'm happy now with my choices. Hopefully I will come away with some new information, and new contacts and friends in the theological library world.

So that was the last thing we were waiting for with our trip - everything is now booked in and paid for... just have to wait 54 days and counting...
On Saturday, I'm gong out with my crafting buddy Judith to get some backing material for the 2 Christmas stockings I've stitched for friends, and to check out a craft store that is closing down to see if they have any bargains left. Should be a nice day on Saturday that I'm looking forward to very much. Hopefully the weather plays along.

Life is About #18

I only filled in another tree last night. I don't think there will be too many more nights on this one before I get it finished.
We've been watching a fair bit of TV lately - the Vikings and Game of Thrones. We've just bought series 5 of Game of Thrones on DVD, but we decided to re-watch series 1-4 to catch up with everything again as it had been a while since we watched them. We've got 2 episodes to go before we can start on series 5. The Vikings is another good series on TV which we've got hooked into. It is currently on Wednesday nights and we had taped last week's show so we wanted to watch it before tonight's episode.

Life is About #17

I'm very happy with my progress over the long Easter weekend.

We had a great time with my 2 nephews on Friday night - but it was tiring and we both needed a nap on Saturday afternoon. I hope they enjoyed themselves and want to come back next holidays.

Sunday, we had a good time at the footy as our team (Western Bulldogs) won and then we went to Ross Noble on Sunday night. He was good, I liked the encore bit of his performance best. I'm sure we'll go and see him again.

Yesterday, we didn't do a lot - mowed the lawns, some baking, more sleeping! I started packing for our next trip - I know, there's still over 50 days to go before we leave, but I can't help it - preparing is half the fun! For those who may not know, in May, we're going to Canada & Alaska on one of those APT tours then we have 4 days in San Francisco and 5 days in Los Angeles. This trip came about because I'm going to the ATLA (American Theological Library Assoc) conference in LA and we couldn't just fly there and back, so we tacked on this trip before it as well. And my parents are coming too so it should be a wonderful time. I am SO looking forward to it.

Life is About #16

I only had a chance to do the back-stitching around 'destination' last night...
I had 5 more students do the Library Easter Egg Hunt yesterday and they were all excited about it and had a great time. I'm still not sure it is enough to make me do it again next year though. I'm almost through my prepared bags of eggs - I don't want to have to take any home!
I am SO looking forward to the extra long weekend tomorrow... We've got my 9 & 6 yr old nephews Friday night, then my parents for Saturday dinner, then we're going to see comedian Ross Noble on Sunday night after the first footy match of the year on Sunday afternoon - Monday, I have no plans except sleeping! Who knows how much cross-stitch I'll be able to squeeze in between all these things!

Happy Easter everyone, be safe if you're on the roads!

Life is About #15

I did do some stitching last night, but it is a bit hard to see - there is now a white outline all around the world 'destination'.
My Easter Egg Hunt didn't go as well as hoped yesterday - I only got 2 students doing it. They said they had fun, but they also said it took all morning and was hard (personally, I think if I made it any easier, I would just be handing out eggs) but I wanted to make them do something to get the eggs. So now I'm just handing out eggs to everyone who borrows something in the hope of getting rid of my 50 bags of mini eggs that I prepared. I don't want to get stuck with them after Thursday. It's a little disappointing, but worth the try. I'll have to come up with something different for next year.

Life is About #14

This is coming along nicely.
I'm having a bit of fun at work this week in my theological library - with an Easter Egg hunt! I thought it's probably not a good idea to leave chocolate eggs around the shelves in case they're not all found, so I've got a question sheet for students to search the catalogue, go to the shelf where the answer is and get a card. Once all 6 cards have been located, they get their Easter Egg prize. It's the first time I've done anything like this and it might not work, but we'll see how it goes. Note: our students are adults, not kids, but they still seem to enjoy the search - why should the little kids have all the fun!

Life is About #13

I'm pretty pleased with my progress over the weekend, although it could have been much further along if I hadn't had so many naps on the couch! It seems I use the weekends to catch up on my sleep and spend most of the afternoons (both on Sat & Sun) sleeping on the couch (unless I have something to go and do). We were supposed to be at Aireys Inlet this weekend, but we didn't end up going - my husband had the F1 Grand Prix to go to, and then watch again when he got home (he's a little obsessed!) and I decided it was too cold and wet - we had our first real burst of wintery weather for the year. Next weekend, there'll be no naps as we're having a sleepover of my 2 nephews (aged 9 and 6) so that should be pretty full on!

Life is About #12

No fancy pictures today - the site I use to fix my pictures (ipiccy) is having issues. Hopefully it will be OK tomorrow. Last night I only did a small amount of back-stitching so you probably can't see much difference from the previous picture. I've got several appointments for tonight but I'm hoping I can get some stitching done before bedtime...

Life is About #11

I haven't done any stitching for the last 4 days as I've been having too much fun with my nieces and nephew in Queensland. It was great to catch up with them, and I even made it in time on Friday night to participate in my niece's 9th birthday party which had a Star Wars theme. It was heaps of fun. This is where I got up to during my time on the Gold Coast for our library stock-take.

Life is About #10

Very happy with my progress from last night.
Hopefully our stock-taking issues have been resolved and I can run reports tomorrow. Apparently it didn't go below 30C in Melbourne last night, so I'm glad I'm on the gold Coast!

Life is About #9

I'm on the Gold Coast this week for work doing the annual library stock-take. I'm having a great time - I love library stock-takes! Again, we're having issues - if it's not one thing, it's another. It would be nice to one day do a stock-take that has no issues and runs how it is supposed to, but not this time... Hopefully they will be sorted out tomorrow. It is warm and quite humid.
I've brought the Life is About design with me and got a fair amount done last night. The top half is now done!

Life is About #8

I had a wonderful facial last night which made my skin feel amazing. When I got home, I started on the border...

Next week, I will be on the Gold Coast doing the library stock-take for our QLD campus library. I love my stock-take so I'm really looking forward to it. I will take some stitching with me so I have something to do in the evenings. Then, next weekend, I'll be visiting my sister & her family who live in Warwick (about 3hrs inland from the Gold Coast) and spending some time with them. Hopefully, it's not too hot - at least they have a pool if it is.

Life is About #7

The top section is now done, except for a few small bits and the border. Again, I know I'm going to run out of black which is used for all the back-stitching. I've only got 2 strands left and I'm not even half way through the design. Luckily, I have a few skeins that I bought last time I ran out on one of these designs!

Life is About #6

I was hoping to finish the LIFE block last night, but I think I was being a little ambitious. Just got to fill it in and do the back-stitching.

Life is About #5

Making good progress on this one. I had a 3 hour nap on Sunday afternoon so I didn't get as far along as I had hoped for the weekend. I certainly felt better after my nap, so I must have really needed it.

On Saturday afternoon, I had a craft afternoon with my friend Judith and her new toy - I can't remember the exact name of it, but it is a scanning & cutting machine. It scans & draws pictures and cuts paper and material into all sorts of wonderful shapes and patterns. I made a few test envelopes with fancy cut-out fold over bits. It was fantastic and has so much potential. I'm just trying to think of things I need to have cut out so I can have another play with it!

Life is About #4

It's a bit hard to see, there is a white border around the 'journey' letters - I did more than just the letter Y and the box above last night!
The massage I had last night was wonderful - got out lots of knots and I felt so relaxed. My husband gave me 2 massage vouchers for Christmas, but I'm going to have a relaxing facial instead of the second massage next week.

Life is About #3

I was trying to finish the whole word, but I was getting so sleepy, I thought "it's not worth finishing if you need to pull it out and redo," so I went to bed.
Tonight I have a massage that was a Christmas present from my husband. It's a bit weird getting it on a Thursday night, but they don't have anyone who can do it working on the weekend which would be my preferred time. Anyway, I'm finishing work a little early, grabbing a light dinner and then I plan to really enjoy it, so much so that I might fall asleep on the table!

Snow Bears Stocking DONE and a new start...

The little tassels on the scarves were very easy to do. Almost like a french knot, just slightly different. I can't remember what the pattern called them but the effect they provide is great. So that's it for the Snow Bears Stocking until I can get organised to stitch it up (I'm hoping my friend Judith will be able to assist me again!) [hint, hint Judith ;-)]

So I went to my stitching stash and got out another of the Design Works series that I am doing for my theological library. I chose the 'Life is about the journey, not the destination' and made a reasonable start...
