Sledding Snowman Stocking - finished & Doona covers - finished!

Every weekend should be 3 days long! Thanks to the long weekend for the footy Grand Final, I got so much done - I am very pleased with myself!

Firstly, I finished off the Sledding Snowman Stocking - name and backing. I selected a striped backing as the design is a fun one and this just suited it perfectly rather than a plain colour.

I am super pleased with the end result and I just know the parents will love it as well!

Then I got re-started on my doona cover projects - the ones I was hoping (very naively) to have done by Christmas last year (in just 3 months, having never done a patchwork project ever before! - what was I thinking?)
All 5 fabrics have been done - woo hoo! I am super pleased with the results. They are all slightly different as I couldn't work out the instructions for finishing them with the gap at the bottom to insert the doona cover until I got to the last one. The final one is the only one that is completed correctly, but the others will all work just as well and no-one will know if I don't tell them (shh, you can keep a secret can't you?). Now I have one more to do as there are 6 single beds at the holiday house. The final one will be a mix'n'match of all the prints but I'm just deciding how to do that, what plain fabric to use and so on...
I think my first foray into patchwork has been a great success and I can't wait to start the next project...

I also made gluten free mars bar slice (but with snickers since they are gf) and a sweet potato, feta and quinoa muffin for my lunches during the week.

Why can't every weekend be 3 days long - think how much you could get done!

Sledding Snowman Stocking #24

Final tree all finished, and I did a pale outline of the stocking so I know where to stitch the backing fabric.
I'm just confirming the spelling of the baby's name before I stitch it on, and I hope to buy some backing fabric this long weekend and finish it off completely!
It has been such a joy to stitch - thoroughly FUN!

Sledding Snowman Stocking #23

Second last tree finished - Final tree almost done! Just got to finish filling in the tree, back-stitch it and then some random snow flakes int he blank spaces and lastly, the name - and then it's done! Woo hoo - Have to start thinking about what to do next now! We have this Friday as a holiday for our footy Grand Final so I'm hoping the fabric store might be open so I can go and select a backing piece. The pattern comes with red felt, but I'm thinking something more pale green to match the aida - any thoughts...?

Sledding Snowman Stocking #20

Only one and a half Christmas trees to go now - the end is in sight! This really has been so enjoyable to stitch. And I've recently found out someone else I have done a stocking for before is having another baby so I've got another stocking order to pick out too! It's never ending - lucky I love doing them so much!

Sledding Snowman Stocking #19

The big patch of snow took me a couple of nights to fill in but that is a big section now done - yay! Here's a close-up:
I'm going to the movies tonight to see The Hitman's Bodyguard - so that looks interesting. And we've got a 2nd birthday for a friend on the weekend so that should be fun too. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Sledding Snowman Stocking #18

I had a second post-op hydrodilatation today (cortisone injected into the shoulder). My surgeon is happy with my progress, but it is slow and that's frustrating for me. He says I have another month before I can complain about slow progress as it is usually about 3 months recovery time and I'm only at 2 months...

Stitching is still going well on this stocking though. It is such a happy design - makes me smile every time I pick it up.

Sledding Snowman Stocking #15

Almost ready to back-stitch the top bit of the sled. I hope to make some real progress on this stocking over the weekend as it is supposed to be cold and wet.
Hope you all have a great weekend,

Sledding Snowman Stocking #14

Just a little back-stitching and a row of red on the sled last night as I was late home from the physio. My shoulder is improving slowly but I seem to have gone back a bit in the last week with increased pain and tightness. I'm seeing the surgeon next week for a review so hopefully he will suggest a course of action. Overall though, I am happy with how it is progressing as it is much more flexible than it was before my operation!

Sledding Snowman Stocking #13

 Coming together very nicely!
Here's a random sort of question for you - I have Type 1 Diabetes, and as such, I go through lots of supplies of test strips, monitors, pump materials etc. One thing I have heaps of is empty test strip containers. The old ones I used to use were white, and the labels came off very easily. I use them for beads and needle storage. But these new black ones are impossible to get the labels off, even after soaking. Any ideas on what I could use them for rather than putting them in the rubbish? They are about 5cm high and have a diameter of about 2cm, so they are only small. I have heaps of them.

Sledding Snowman Stocking #12

Three snowmen making an appearance now... This is so enjoyable to stitch!

I sewed up another 2 Christmas placemats - and used them for Father's Day dinner with my parents on Saturday night - I figure there's no point making them and only using them for a few hours on one day a year! I've got at least 4 more to make to have enough for Christmas Day, and now that I have more supplies I can do that over the next few weekends...

Sledding Snowman Stocking #10

Almost finished the name banner last night. I am loving how quickly this stocking is coming together - it is not one of the Dimensions Gold Collection designs, so it is a little simpler, but the overall effect is just as cute! It is a joy to stitch and see it come together.

Filled in more of the name banner last night... Not much more to say about that.

Sledding Snowman Stocking #7

I got a bit more filled in around the snowman last night and will hopefully make a start on the next one today or tomorrow. Tonight we have diner at my parent's place then when I get home I have to make some snacks for our College research conference morning teas for Thursday and Friday so I might not get much stitching time tonight...

We are planning on going to Aireys this weekend so that will mean plenty of catch-up stitching time as there isn't a lot else to do - perfect!

Happy Stitching,
Kerrie

Sledding Snowman Stocking #5

Started on the yellow background last night - this will be quick to do as it fills a fairly large area, and it's only half-cross-stitch - yay! Once I've done around the snowman, I can do the back-stitching and finish him off completely.
Happy Stitching,
Kerrie
